The Aussie Hotel Yass Roos notched up their first win for 2015, with a comprehensive victory over Ainslie last weekend. Conditions were just about perfect with bright sunshine and very little breeze and the final score of Yass 17.16 (118) to Ainslie 3.5 (23) told the story of a very one-sided game.

Ainslie actually scored the first goal of the game but once the Roos got rolling they dominated possession and field position. The Roos pressure on the ball carrier was relentless and the Ainslie players found they had little or no time to move the ball on. The Roos tackling was superb.
Whenever Ainslie looked like moving the ball forward the Roos backline held firm and delivered the ball back to attacking Yass forwards. You would hardly credit this as the same team that lost to the Swans just the week before.
You couldn’t have said the game was over at half time but with the score at Yass 9.8 (62) and Ainslie 2.4 (16) the Ainslie boys had to come out with a new approach if they were going to turn it around. Unfortunately for them it didn’t happen and the Roos continued to rack up possessions, tackles and scores. A bit of frustration late in the game from Ainslie saw a couple of late tackles and some silly free kicks go the way of the Roos, which only added to their poor day.
It was a genuine team effort by the Roos evidenced by the 13 different goal scorers. In such a team it was hard also to single out the best but Paul Willersdorf, Jarrad Forlonge, Toby Serafin, Ryan Forlonge, Darren Pfeiffer and Angus Burleigh were notable in their contributions. This is the sort of form Coach Ben Serafin would like to see every week from his players. This result proves they can do it; they just need to believe it each week.
In other matches Goulburn were too strong for Cootamundra and now hold top spot on the ladder while Cooma defeated Tuggeranong. Next Saturday the Roos will face Cootamundra at Joe O’Connor Park. The match kicks off at 2.15pm.
With the Blues coming off a loss and the Roos enjoying that winning feeling it should be a very entertaining clash. The Roos really need to get a run of wins together to move themselves up the ladder and they would love to get some winning form at home.
Get yourselves along to cheer them on. I’ll see you at the footy!
