Murray cod closed season coming to an end

Current inflow: 800 ML per day.

Water level November 25: 68.2 per cent. 

Water level November 18: 68.8 per cent. 

Water visibility: up to three metres.

Weather: After a bit of wind this week it will be settling down for the weekend. A top of 25 degrees on Saturday and 28 degrees on Sunday and a low of eight for the weekend. No rain is predicted for this weekend. Wind will peak on Saturday afternoon at 11km/h

Water temperature: 23-25 degrees Celsius. 

Murray cod: closed season September 1–November 30 (not long to go now). Last season was nothing short of fantastic. I’ve seen metre plus cod pictures almost every week over summer with the total number exceeding 30 fish, that I know of. Night time trolling and casting became very popular with half the fish caught captured during the wee small hours. The biggest fish last season measured in at a fantastic 134cm. I will have more to say next week, no doubt, and maybe a big fish or two on the board. Remember the change in rules that came in 12 months ago. The minimum size is 55cm and any fish 75cm or bigger is to be returned to the water. I had a conversation with one of our guests who stayed for a week and he told me he found three dead cod floating, two of which were around the one metre mark. We had some of these last year also. Most of us know the do’s and don’ts with handling Murray cod, especially the big ones. Have a chat to me on the way in or have a google if you’re not sure. We only have a few cabins available during next week so if you want one, be quick. 

Yellow Belly: have certainly gone off the chew, at the lower end of the dam anyway. I was away from the dam this weekend and only three reports came in. Six yellows, up river casting plastics and 11 fish up river trolling Oar-Geez and jackals. The general consensus was “very quiet”. 

Redfin: Plenty of reports once again. Mainly individual small fish taking bait or lures. 

Carp: As per usual, come and help yourself. Great fun for the kids. There seems to be a lot of big fish about this year. Worms, bread, corn and burley. 

Park news: Please bring drinking water over the next two weeks. The new water treatment plant is being brought online which requires emptying of tanks and re-running of pipes. Water will be chlorinated but not filtered during this time. No more fires, includes heat beads.
