I do love gadgets. Valentines Day is coming up. Would the love of your life prefer a gadget to a card and/or flowers or chocolate? I always enjoy searching the Net to see what crazy or wonderful gadgets are out there. In the last few days, I’ve found quite a number that I would actually love to see, so here’s my list in no particular order.
Lacie Christofle Sphère
Wow – what a beautiful storage device designed by Christofle. It holds 1TB but that’s not the point as it’s a beautiful mirrored sphere. Form follows function? In this case, perhaps function follows form.
Star Wars Sphero BB-8 Droid
This is way too expensive for a child at $249, but it sure looks fun, rolling around and interacting by the use of an app or autonomously. It can also project videos stored on mobile devices.
Jewellery with LED lighting
One could really make an entrance with lit earrings or pendants. Crazy, but some are actually quite interesting looking.
Pacif-I Connected Dummy
This is really strange, but perhaps useful for some. It’s a pacifier (dummy) for babies that measures the child’s temperature through a phone app (where you can also record medicine times, etc, or find the dummy if it becomes lost)
Brookstone HDMI pocket projector
This is a tiny $300projector that can be easily carried in a pocket for quick presentations.
Epson PaperLab
This is not really a gadget, but an interesting machine for the future. It is still operating in prototype mode but will really change office procedures, as used office paper can be input and shredded, and in a waterless environment new paper (various weight and types available) come out the other end. It can currently produce 14 A4 pages per minute.
SolPro Charger
After 90 minutes in direct sunlight, this solar charger at $159 has enough power to charge your smartphone once. There are two USB ports and the device can charge your phone as it draws energy from the sun (even if the charger itself is at zero).
Notion
This is still in development, but device, recently funded on Kickstarter, is a home intelligence system which uses a small, smart, multi-function sensor to detect quite a number of things in your home; such as, a water leak, opening and closing of doors, temperature changes and sounds. When any of these things are detected, Notion will send a message to your smartphone. This won’t be hugely expensive and I think it’s worth looking at.
Enjoy!
