A record number of more than 1500 people filed through the gates of the Murrumbateman Recreation Grounds on Saturday afternoon to witness some breathtaking bucking bull action.
Last year’s feature bull rider, Richard Treanor from Bathurst, was again crowned the king of the ring with a two second ride on Sports Machine.
Treanor’s ride was a few seconds down on last year’s attempt and with $100 for every second he didn’t stay on the bull pledged to Maya’s Rest, a total of $800 was raised for the Murrumbateman home that offers non-medically assisted respite for families of children who are undergoing active treatment for life threatening illnesses.
Organiser Matt Darmody said the committee is still tallying the final amount raised on the night but he was delighted to see $800 from the feature bullride go towards such a worthy local cause.
Competitors on the night reached a record number for the Murrumbateman rodeo and provided plenty edge-of-your-seat entertainment for the crowd with a first class lineup of bull riders, bucking bulls, bucking horses, barrel racers and bareback riders.
A highlight of the action-packed night was undoubtedly the star attraction - the famous animal wranglers from Longreach Queensland - who have featured on The Today Show, the Stockman’s Hall of Fame, Mt Isa Australia’s Biggest Rodeo and now the Murrumbateman Rural Supplies Rodeo and Stampede.
Their animals travel the width and breadth of Australia performing at the biggest shows to the largest crowds and securing their services was a huge coup for the organising committee. They did not disappoint.
“Lachie Crosser and the Animal Wranglers were fantastic,” Darmody said. “They are the best animal entertainers in Australia and the crowd absolutely loved them.”
Organisers reaped the benefits from months of hard work on Saturday night and are already setting their sights on next year’s rodeo.
“We will go ahead again and make it an even bigger and better event,” Darmody said.
