The Yass Rams Millers Pharmacy Under 7s greeted Uni North Owls at Victoria Park in very cold conditions. Yass started off well with some great forward running by the team that lead to Samuel’s first try of the match. Despite some good defence by Digby, the Owls were next to score. The Rams continued running forward, with Digby as always proving hard to tackle. The game seesawed with both teams trading tries. Before half time Samuel was able to add another 3 tries to his tally and Ashton chiming in with 1 after a great run down the sideline.
The second half saw Yass take a bit more control, with some good constant forward running. Ashton continued his good form and made a few great runs down the sideline. Simon was always on the ball, constantly chasing down anything loose on the ground. Katelyn, Jasper, and Jack all chipped in both defensively and providing great go forward. Samuel was able to make the best of this, scoring another 4 tries including one running the length of the field. Yass ended up running out winners 9 tries to 6.
Under 9s
The Yass Valley Property Under 9s had a cold but hard run game.
Kick off to the opposition was followed by a quick scrum, which saw Baxter Sicily sneak an early try.
Moments later Morris Hyles delivered the ball to Baxter for the second try.
There were a series of spectacular tackles in a mud bath – swim of the day going to Jude Barry – and then it was Morrie’s turn to push forward for an excellent try.
Defence by both sides went to a whole new level with scrum after scrum. Amelia Waters gave a good run with Baxter following up with an excellent try just on half time. Great defence created line out after line out close to the opposition's try line.
The game was rounded out with a great run for George Locke, before Baxter ran the entire field after a steal of the ball for the next and final try. Final score 7 - 5 to the Eagles.
Under 10s
The Yass Rams Integrated Farming Systems Under 10’s learnt some hard lessons against Marist Blue at home last week. Rugby is a game of attack and defence and the young Rams lack of commitment at the tackle and breakdown cost them dearly against a well drilled team that were full of running.
From the first scrum Marist scooted away to score. This was followed from three long distance tries from the kick offs which saw Marist kick away to a 17-0 lead.
Despite good efforts from Tom, D’Art and a determined chasing from Poppy, Marist again scored twice from the kick off and converted to take a commanding lead to 29-0.
Spurred into action from Mums and Dads on the sideline, Jack Hamish and Charlie made strong charges to offload to Angus who was well tackled causing a knock on close to the line. A strong scrummage from Louis, Sam and Charlie won a tight head scrum. Clancy cleared the ball to a charging Hamish to score seeing the half time score at 29-5.
After a pep talk from coach Bucket, the team rallied their efforts in the second half lead by Oscar and Owen. Despite an improved effort the steady flow of Marist tries continued, with the final score running out to 49-5.
