Of note, and one of the Yass Valley’s greatest on record, was E. J. (Joe) O`Connor, who served as Alderman of Yass for 41 years during which he served for five years as mayor. He died in 1984 after serving on YVC from 1933-1974, excluding his World War II service.
His service includes; Council delegate Burrinjuck County Council for four years; Council delegate Southern Tablelands County Council for 12 years; Member of the Board of Directors Yass District Hospital for 38 years; Chairman of Yass District Hospital from 1959-1975. A Yass park, named after him, commemorates this service.
