All Yass Valley Schools receive funding in the new year

Yass Valley schools will gain hundreds of thousands of dollars from next year, after the state government announced a record $219 million funding investment according to the Gonski needs-based funding formula.

Valley Schools will take it’s share of $345,749, with funding increases ranging in size from $124,415 to $4,517.

Big winners from the funding boost include Yass High School and Berinba Public School. 

Public schools across the Goulburn electorate will benefit from a share of the record $219 million in additional needs-based funding in 2017, made possible by NSW signing the Gonski agreement.

Member for Goulburn Pru Goward said the extra resources will go directly to our Yass Valley schools allowing principals to better meet the unique needs of their students and the school community.

“I have seen local schools employ additional teachers with expertise to assist students who need extra support in key learning areas,” she said. 

Yass High School principal Sandra Hiscock said the money would have a measurable impact on the programs her staff would be able to deliver.

“We hope the additional money will be used to provide more elective lines to better cater for the students interests,” she said. “One example is the stage five program; Invigorating Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics.”

“One of the minor units in this course is drones. Students will learn to use them and be able to get their licence after they are 17.”  

Year 9 will also have access to an additional agriculture line. Ms Hiscock said that the additional funding would also be spent on resources in technology.
