The vaccination while being a bit complicated is worthwhile.
An initiative of the federal government is the recently developed vaccine against Shingles, which is a painful and sometimes disfiguring infection.
It hits anyone with more likelihood as we get older and the government is making available for people over 70 years of age.
Big advances have resulted in Australians being in the best life expectancy group in the world – these advances include vaccines, antibiotics, clean water and sewerage.

YASS
NBN rollout in Yass
Super fast internet is ramping up in Yass, with thousands more local residents now able to connect to the NBN network for the first time.
The NBN first rolled in Yass almost a year ago, with over 830 premises in Mt Browning and Binalong able to connect to the network.
During November, 2,800 homes and businesses in areas surrounding Yass will be able to connect to the NBN network, meaning the town becomes almost completely connected to the new network and setting new benchmarks for the area’s broadband speeds and reliability.
Around 350 additional premises are set to switch on in the nearby area of Mt Manton next year.
Telstra Country Wide Area General Manager Chris Taylor said the launch of Telstra services on the NBN around Yass will give locals the opportunity to use a variety of new and emerging technologies.
“The roll out of more NBN services comes as broadband use in Australia has reached unprecedented levels,” Mr Taylor said.
The top four things to consider when choosing your NBN network plan are:
- Work out how much data you need: Most plans have data allowances that are measured in gigabytes (GB). Make sure your monthly allowance meets your needs by reviewing your current usage and factoring in some headroom.
- Check your content and device options: The NBN network opens up a world of on-demand content, such as BigPond Movies, Presto and Foxtel Play. If entertainment is important to you, check whether your provider offers a catalogue of movies available to rent or internet TV channels and whether that content is unmetered.
- Make sure you’re supported: Check whether the services provider can support you in a way that suits you – be it face to face in a shop, in your home with the help of a skilled tech, over the phone, on email, or via social media.
- Look for value: By combining your voice, broadband and entertainment services into one package, such as a Telstra home broadband bundle, you can enjoy more value for your money.
Locals in Yass will be serviced by a mix of NBN technologies including fixed wireless and fibre to the node (FTTN).

DON’T AMERICANISE OUR HEALTH SYSTEM
We've all heard about the sky-high costs for health care faced by Americans - the bankruptcies and unnecessary deaths because they can't afford to pay for hospital treatment.
We don't want that in Australia. But the NSW government is keeping very quiet about possible plans for a private company to operate services in Byron's new ‘public’ hospital.
We deserve an excellent new fully-public hospital.
I do not want an American-style health system in Australia!
