The Bango Wind Farm south of Boorowa, which would consist of 122 turbines, each up to 200 metres high, is a State Significant Development. The project recently gained momentum after the shift in the renewable energy policy.
A proposal to make a submission to the NSW Department of Planning on the key issues for the Yass Valley was adopted unanimously at the November Ordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday.
Road infrastructure and the community enhancement being the main concern.
According to council, the submission will ensure issues raised by local residents are properly assessed and would stipulate that the local roads should be maintained by the company over the entire construction phase.
The company behind the project, CWP Renewables, has proposed that the access points are the Hume Highway, Yass Valley Way, Wargeila Road, Lachlan Valley Way and Tangmangaroo Road.
Wargeila and Tangmangaroo are local roads in which council is the Roads Authority.
While the traffic report indicates moderate upgrades for Tangmangaroo Road, it flagged significant upgrades and widening of Wargeila Road to accommodate oversized vehicles.
Yet, there was little detail on any pavement upgrades.
Councillor Jasmin Jones told the council chambers that while she disagrees with wind farm development in tourism areas of the Yass Valley, she was excited by the opportunity to be able to have a say in protecting local roads.
