NSW Police will be targeting speeding motorists this Easter as drivers breaking the law face losing double demerit points as part of Operation Tortoise.

The annual operation began early Thursday morning with police reminding motorists to take extra care on the roads over the holiday.
With long weekends a high risk time for road fatalities, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command implored drivers to slow down over Easter.
“We have already lost 91 lives on NSW roads this year,” he said.
“The impact each death has on emergency services is incredible. We are the ones that respond, treat people at the scene, deliver death messages to family and friends.”
Inspector Alison Brennan said Yass police would be out in the community doing their part to keep motorists safe this long weekend.
“We’re definitely focusing on traffic,” she said.
“Every long weekend we hold traffic operations mainly focusing on RBT… and there will be extra highway patrol.”
Inspector Brennan said while traffic safety is always a of concern to police in the region they’ll be keeping an extra eye out for speeding, drink driving and other unsafe behaviour
“With long weekends traffic is definitely of focus… slow down and be aware that police are out there.”
