That is exactly what stalwart player Anthony Worthy is. The Yass Magpies front rower will play his 250th game for the club in the charity round on Saturday, May 6 against the Tuggeranong Bushrangers. It will be at home, at Walker Park.
Asked about how his body was holding up, he simply said it was not too bad. “It’s getting drilled pretty well at the moment, but other than that, I’m still going,” he said.
Worthy began his first-grade career with the Magpies in 1996 where he alternated between halfback and hooker. Then during the middle part of his career, he went to play for the Binalong Brahmans for four years before coming back to the team in black and white.
Worthy said that a career highlight, besides the 250th game for the Magpies, was his time at the Brahmans.
“I was fortunate to have been part three premierships in a row there,” he said.
Despite reaching such a milestone this weekend, Worthy said his 2017 goal is to help the team win the Canberra Raiders Cup. “Or at least make the finals anyway, that’s the minimum,” he said.
The charity round on May 6, Walker Park, kicks off at 11am with the under 18s before first-grade at 3pm.
