Division two travelled to Wanniassa, ACT, to take on Canberra Olympic where they went down 6–1.
Jacinta Murphy scored the sole goal for the women in black and red.
The team, however, can take plenty of positives from the second half after restricting the home side to only one additional goal.
Next up for the division two side is Gungahlin United at Walker Park on Sunday, July 2. Play will begin at 12pm.
Division four gallant at home
Meanwhile at home during round 12, division four hosted the Monaro Panthers Football Club in cold and windy conditions.
The opposition took advantage early on with two quick goals within 15 minutes. The second came from a strike just outside the penalty box.
Redbacks’ Ingrid Davis, during substitution, said the opposition scoring two in quick succession took them by surprise.
While the bulk of play was in the Redbacks’ half, the home side defended with determination to contain the visitors’ onslaught.
In the second half, the Redbacks made a few team switches and came out with more attacking plays. There were a number of solo runs and shots at goal by the midfielders and forwards.
The momentum switched between the sides. However, it was the Panthers who struck first in the second half to lead 3–0. In the end, they added another two goals to take victory.
Despite the heavy loss, the division four side can take away many positives, including their first-half defence and attacking plays in the second half.
Division four will be at home again, at Walker Park, in round 13 against the Australian National University Women’s Football Club. Play will begin at 2pm on Sunday, July 2.
