The nursery, a joint project of Yass Landcare Group and the Yass Community Garden, will be a resource for people who would like propagate seedlings for environmental plantings, vegetable gardens and flower beds.
“With a shade house, an automatic watering system, and raised tables for efficient sowing, weeding and thinning, the nursery will be a great place to start flower seedlings as well as veggies,” Yass Community Garden secretary Rebecca Widdows said.
Yass Landcare Group will work with Greening Australia to grow seedlings for big projects such as the Yass Habitat Linkages Project.
The project, funded by the NSW Environmental Trust Bush Connect Program, focuses on the Yass, Gunning, Gundaroo area and will support landholders who wish to plant shelterbelts and increase biodiversity.
The nursery will also be growing fire-retardant species for planting near houses and around other important assets.
“It is so rewarding to plant the seeds and watch them as they come up. It gives you such a good feeling,” Yass Landcare Group secretary Jan Grubb said.
“There will be a plant to take home for your garden too,” she said.
Deputy mayor Kim Turner will officially open the nursery. Everyone is welcome. For more about the nursery:
