Rob Mitchell the Memory Man, a long-standing aged-care storyteller and reminiscence entertainer from Sydney, will be visiting the Thomas Eccles Gardens on Monday November 6 as part of his 2017 Country Spring Tour.

The visit will involve sharing stories to revive memories of the elderly.
Mr Mitchell said stories are one of the main elements that bind families and communities together.
“Oral history is perhaps the simplest of recording mediums, but conveys so much more than the written account. It is impossible, for example, to replicate in writing the humour, timing, idiosyncrasies, etc, of the human voice,” he said.
Memory Man performs a variety of pantomime-style shows using his “box of tricks” that contains household memorabilia from yesteryear, including vintage food tins, gas lamps and even old meat mincers.
“It basically contains the five senses, which I use to trigger memories with,” said Mr Mitchell.
“I am an old bloke so have seen a bit of life, which I guess is a prerequisite for being a Memory Man.

“It is all about putting smiles on faces.”
His show at Thomas Eccles Gardens will be a first for Yass.
“It will be something completely different for their residents as I am Australia’s only full-time aged-care storyteller,” he said.
Hosting shows in southern NSW has also been a first time for him, after having conducted shows mostly in Sydney and Queensland.
“I’d just like to expose rural Australia to a unique way of storytelling,” he said.
The Thomas Eccles show was arranged six months prior. On November 6, it will run from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
