Both the policy and the guidelines aim to establish clearly defined processes and procedures for the commissioning, decommissioning and management of public artworks.
As well, it aims to define funding sources to facilitate and support public art development and maintenance.
Yass Valley’s Public Art Committee have been involved or facilitated the installation of a number of public artworks.
Recent projects include the purchase of the 'Forgotten' sculpture on the Barton Highway and the 'flock of sheep' installation in Yass.
These projects have introduced council and the community to the huge potential for public art in the Local Government Area and there is now a need for a strategic approach to cultivate a diverse and dynamic public art program for Yass Valley.
“Yass Valley has a thriving art scene and we want to use the talent and experience in this space to hopefully introduce more public art into our community spaces,” Yass Valley mayor Rowena Abbey said.
“The public art policy and guidelines are currently on exhibition and we are seeking the community’s feedback on how we move forward with this program,” Cr Abbey said.
Council welcomes submissions regarding both documents. Exhibition of both closes at 5pm Monday, November 27.
