Inaugural Yass Valley Doubles Shoot-Out

The competition is the brainchild of local tennis coach Scott Eulenstein, who wanted to introduce an event aimed at the Year 5-6 level children in the valley. 

“It’s a chance for those students who are in years five and six to have a competitive day of competition,” Eulenstein said. 

66 children from five schools participated. Harden, Jugiong, Boorowa, Mt Carmel, and Berinba all sent delegations to play, and the competition was open to children of any skill level. 

“It’s been really good, we’ve had a lot of new players come through, and it’s a good taste for them to learn about the game,” Eulenstein said. 

The kids learn a range of technical and tactical skills while on the court, and are allowed to choose a partner with whom they will team up for every match. 

Following the success of this event, Eulenstein is optimistic about the chances of bringing the competition back on a yearly basis. 

“For our cluster of schools here, I think it’s creating an opportunity,” Eulenstein said. 

“Hopefully this has the basis to become an annual event, we can definitely incorporate more towns or we could play a few zone days and things like that.”
