Ms Abbey thanked Bimbi Turner, deputy chair, for the nomination on behalf of the Cooma Cottage’s management committee.
“I am pleased to have been able to help all our visitors to Cooma Cottage to learn more of Hamilton Hume, his travels with William Hovell, and his life in Yass based at Cooma Cottage,” Ms Abbey said.
“I hope the Cottage finds many new young people to join it as guides. It is a great place which all Australians should visit,” she said.
Susan Bell, chair of the committee, congratulated Ms Abbey for her substantial contribution to the community and visitors.
“Pauline has also assisted in training a new generation of guides and we welcome her to come back for our 30th anniversary – on April 19, 2018 – as a publicly accessible National Trust property.
The day also included the end-of-year gathering for Cooma Cottage volunteers.
