With the help of Sarah Barnes, Yass Valley Council’s ranger, senior constable Madden organised the donation.
She donated the items to share the Christmas spirit with Yass Valley’s animal friends currently housed at the shelter and awaiting new homes.
Asked about the initiative, senior constable Madden said it began after seeing a Facebook post by Yass Valley Animal Shelter.
“I saw that they asked for donation and I asked if I could drop off toys and they happily said yes.
“So my partner and I bought toys and I visited the shelter,” she said.
Senior constable Madden said the effort was to also create more awareness about displaced animals from domestic violence, saying it was unfortunate that there were no programs in the Hume LAC for such situations.
”Providing items and facilities to house these animals tend to come down to donations and time,” she said.
The Hume LAC praised her efforts.
“Senior constable Madden is aware of the number of animals displaced from their homes through domestic-violence situations.
“She has shown great community spirit and commitment to those she serves through her donation and organisation of this gift,” the Hume LAC said on Facebook.
“We are proud of her efforts. Well done to senior constable Madden and ranger Barnes.”
