Large hailstones, heavy rainfall and damaging winds could be the result of the trough moving through the state.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology at 3:14pm. The strong storm movement and fast winds mean damaging winds are likely.
Severe thunderstorms may produce heavy hailstones, and heavy rainfall, potentially leading to flash flooding and damaging winds over the next few hours.
Braidwood, Yass, the Southern Tablelands and the ACT may all be affected, in addition to Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, parts of Central Tablelands, Riverina and Lower Western Forecast Districts.
The SES those in affected areas do the following:
- Move their cars under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around their house or yard
- Keep at least eight metres away from fallen powerlines and objects that may be energised
- Stay away from creeks and storm drains
- Avoid walking, riding or driving through flood waters
- Unplug computers and appliances
- Avoid using the phone during the storm
- Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets in doors
- * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill.
- For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
