The press was introduced about three months ago, says produce manager Chiran Katuwal, and the bottled juice in three serving sizes is proving popular.
“We wanted to trial it and our customers really love it because it’s freshly squeezed and all natural, nothing artificial, and you can even squeeze it yourself,” he said.
The supermarket introduced the cold press just in time for the seasonal heat, correctly predicting that fresh cold juice would go down well with shoppers. It’s been such a success, they’re now thinking of adding a pineapple press.
Customers can load oranges into the top basket – a litre takes 12 – where they safely drop through a slicer, sluicing the seedless juice into a bottle via a tap.
The supermarket would be happy for anyone to come collect the used rinds for free, as oil in orange peel can be repurposed for cleaning and aromatic uses. They usually give food waste to farmers as stock feed, but the rinds are not suitable. Queries: 6226 3001
