More than a dozen young members of the Yass Rotaract and Interact clubs recently travelled to Bali during mid-January 2018 to volunteer at Rumah Sehat.

Rhuma Sehat, a small, not-for-profit, charity organisation operates in one of the poorest regions of Karangasam in East Bali.
The activities the members undertook included maintenance, painting and concreting of buildings, which included the library and building bookcases.
As well, they helped distribute health and hygiene kits for local students.
They also helped construct a house, piggery and chicken run for a disadvantaged family.
“Really busy over here – we have converted an overgrown jungle area to an open space for a local Balinese family, building them a new home, a piggery and a chicken run,” the members said on their ‘Yass Rotary Bali Trip 2018’ Facebook page.
In between the hard work, the Yass members shared lunches with members of the Bali Interact club.
The clubs have praised the work of their young members.
“Brilliant work by our talented and motivated youth members,” they said.
During the trip the clubs said there were “lots of skills being learnt on the job”.
“Concreting, bricklaying, form work and good old-fashioned labouring – in the tropical rain,” they said.
The trip was made possible from the Rotary Club’s funds, which the Rotaract and Interact clubs said were well spent.
Our team persevered through some very long and wet days – great teamwork and flexibility.
“It's been hard work here through rain heat and high humidity.
“We have also visited the local high school and donated laptops and health and hygiene supplies.
“Outstanding work by our team (and lots of new skills and stories) to tell,” the clubs said.
Towards the end of the “amazing trip”, the team completed the construction tasks amid torrential rain.
“Our team persevered through some very long and wet days – great teamwork and flexibility.
“New skills learnt,” the team said.
They then hiked to Soobayang village in the highlands to supply hygiene kits.
“There, we saw the village's community building – built with generous donations from the Rotary clubs of Yass, Hall, Canberra Sunrise and Canberra South.”
They also participated in a ceremony to mark the occasion and bless the structure.
Distribution of the 50 hygiene kits brought smiles to the faces of the locals, described as “a great way to cap off a very busy week”.
The Yass Interact and Rotaract clubs thanked all who supported them in making this volunteering trip possible.
