Beginning at 10:00am, the day saw a constant flow of parents and children come through Walker Park to try on uniforms and play some of the novelty games which were provided by the club. 

“I’m stoked,” Mr Farnell said. 

“It’s really been constant. I think the EFTPOS machines have only once or twice not had people standing there.” 

Although it was not strictly a registration day, parents were still encouraged to come along and seek help with registering their child if they were having trouble online. 

And Mr Farnell said that they did so in great numbers. 

At roughly the three hour mark on Saturday, over 180 children had been registered to play in the 2018 season. 

“If we’re up to 180 an hour ago, and knowing that there’s still two weeks of rego,” Mr Farnell said, “we had about 200 kids last year, I think we’ll surpass that quite well.”  

The primary aim of the day was to allow interested families to come down and try on the new uniforms which Mr Farnell has designed and begun ordering. 

He was tired of seeing children wearing the same, ill-fitting jerseys year after year, and so thought it would be a good idea to give each child their own uniform, with their names printed on the back and that are fitted specifically for them. 

While the parents were busy with uniform shopping and registration, the kids were out playing. 

At the oval, Mr Farnell had organised dartboard soccer, a nearest the pin competition, face painting, a furthest throw-in competition, a fire truck, and a unique game which featured tyres of various sizes hung in front of a goal to provide targets to aim at, which he said had “been a winner.”

For parents who were not able to attend the open day on Saturday, Mr Farnell said that he will be back at Walker Park this Friday, February 16, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. 

Registration for the regular season closes on Monday February 19, and Mr Farnell asks that all interested parents ensure their children have been entered by then to ensure that he has time to order uniforms.
