The new station is part of the NSW Government’s $122 million Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration program.
Mark Gibbs, Southern NSW Zone manager, welcomed the news.
“While the old building is beautiful and very treasured by the staff, the new station will provide modern facility to allow Yass Ambulance to continue their services into the future,” he said.
Mr Gibbs said local paramedics had input into the design of the building.
“So they had a really strong stake in the process,” he said.
Mr Hazzard said the new Ambulance station would deliver a better working environment for local paramedics.
“The NSW Government is committed to supporting our paramedics who do an amazing job, sometimes in very difficult circumstances,” Mr Hazzard said.
Once completed, the new Yass NSW Ambulance station will include the following:
- Internal parking for up to four emergency ambulance vehicles
- Multipurpose meeting/training room
- Logistics and storage areas
- Relief accommodation
- Staff parking
- Deliveries and loading bay.
MP Pru Goward said the Yass Ambulance Station will better meet current and future demand across the region.
“The location couldn’t be better – it’s now well located to be part of an integrated health hub,” Mrs Goward said.
To date, 22 upgraded, rebuilt or new regional and rural ambulance stations have been announced under the Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration program.
