Inspector Brennan said the investigation about the cause of the accident was continuing.
“There was no traffic disruption but council set up a contra flow as a precaution to manage the site,” she said.
“The driver was taken to Yass Hospital for minor injuries – a few cuts and bruises.”
She said it appeared most of the chicks survived the accident.
Update at 10.30am
The clean up of thousands of one-day old chicks is underway at Burley Griffin Way towards Binalong after a truck crashed down an embankment just after 1am today.
Bruce Turner, works-construction coordinator at Yass Valley Council, who is overseeing the operation said more than 100,000 chicks were in the truck.
“There were 108,000 chicks in there – we’re just picking them up now,” Mr Turner said.
He said the driver was taken to hospital earlier this morning.
“He’s got only a few scratches,” Mr Turner said.
WARNING: Some people may find images distressing.
He and other crew members attended the site at about 2.45am.
The chicks will be transported via another truck.
The majority of them survived.
Mr Turner said the clean up should be completed at about midday.
“Hopefully in a couple of hours we can get everything off the paddock – that’s the plan,” he said.
A NSW police spokesman said the semi-trailer, which was travelling west, left the road and rolled six metres down an embankment.
Police confirmed the 30-year-old driver was taken to Yass Hospital wiht minor injuries.
The Westbound lane remains closed.
Investigations are continuing.
