It has been her first time hiking, first time in a foreign country and first time travelling by herself.

The mission? To raise funds for Maya’s Rest.

Ms Beadman has passed the 300km mark in her 890km walk of the Camino De Stantiago – or The Way of Saint James – in northwestern Spain to raise funds for Maya’s Rest.

“So much has happened that I don’t even know where to start,” Ms Beadman said.

“I’ve passed the 300km mark with only a few injuries. I now wear knee braces for the hills. I’ve climbed mountains, walked through wheat fields, laughed, cried and tried to come home.”

She said what has kept her going were the smiles on the faces of the families who visit Maya’s Rest and the support back home.

She began the trek on May 4 and the whole journey is expected to take 35–40 days. Ms Beadman said it had been an eye opening and amazing journey so far.

“It has been the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, but I do not regret a step and wouldn’t change a thing,” she said.

During her latest update on May 21, she stopped briefly in Burgos before another two days of walking (63km).

“There is no way I would be able to do this without the support from everyone back home. Thank you seems like a small gesture but it’s all I have to offer from here,” she said.
