Under a maintenance grading program, council has gone through and selected unsealed roads to be prioritised for resurfacing.
The list of 60 has been created based on factors such as traffic count, school bus routes, number of residences on the road, as well as the road’s accident history.
Among those included are national highways (number one), state roads (number two), regional roads (number three), local roads (number four) and crown roads (number five).
The list can be viewed here.
Council’s acting director of engineering, Terry Cooper, said: “The grading of unsealed roads in accordance with the adopted road hierarchy is undertaken using council’s own staff and plant.
“Council allocates funds each year to undertake gravel re-sheeting of selected roads and this allocation has significantly expanded since the introduction of the Special Rate Variation in 2016.
“Council has also received grant funding to undertake repair of damaged roads resulting from a natural disaster declaration in September 2016, which is being undertaken by contract works.
“Consequently, there may be occasions when both council plant and contract plant are working on the same road within a short period of time so residents should not be alarmed if they see this occurring.”
The grading program will be subject to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances, but council will work to keep residents informed.
Council is still encouraging residents to get in touch if they are worried about the deterioration of their road.
