Held at Binalong Golf Club, in first place was Jugiong Public School, taking home the Arabin Cup. In second place was Stockinbingal Public School, followed closely behind by Bongongo Public School in third place.
The competition was set-up by the Arabin family, Binalong locals, to create an inclusive activity for students from small schools in the area.
The event has grown year-on-year, from 60 students in the early days to 260 students at the 2018 competition, including five generations of the Arabin family.
The event provides great fun for parents and students of the surrounding small schools, giving them the opportunity to meet others their age and enjoy some friendly competition.
While watching his grandchildren playing, one of the competition founders Leon Arabin recalls his children playing in the competition when they were younger.
Mr Arabin said, “Kids get to know the kids at other schools. I know mine and Belinda’s kids see the same kids on the cricket pitch and the footy field, and they’re friends for life.”
Arabin is referring to his cousin Belinda Arabin-Pigram, another competition founder, who added, “It gives them a chance to join a bigger community.”
Kim Arabin-Dawe, another competition founder and cousin on the two, said, “The students have such a great day; a lot of them only have one or two classrooms.”
