The markets’ current location at St Augustine’s Hall on Meehan Street will be unavailable from November 3, once Yass Gymnastics moves into the space.
The markets will be held at the hall for the final time this Saturday, October 20.
Stall holders will then be invited to join the Scouts Markets at Riverbank Park as part of Classic Yass on Saturday, November 3.
After that, the location of the markets is unknown.
Negotiations are ongoing with Yass Valley Council for a regular venue, according to councillor Kim Turner, who is involved with the markets through the Rotary Club of Yass.
Cr Turner oversaw the start of the Yass Community Markets in his year as Rotary Club president, 2009/10, as a way of bringing locals and local producers together.
Cr Turner said he would let the Tribune know as soon as a permanent location had been secured.
The next markets after Classic Yass are scheduled for November 17.
The markets have been held twice a month at the hall for the past four years and include food and craft stalls, such as vegetables, baked goods, coffee and jam.
St Augustine’s Hall was offered to Yass Gymnastics after council terminated its licence for use of Yass Showground’s Sports Stadium.
The sports club had been struggling for months to find another space that could fit and hold its specialised equipment.
Yass Gymnastics owner and teacher Michelle Vitler said she was extremely grateful that Father Mick and the parish committee had let the sports club use the hall for the next two years.
People are invited to attend Yass Gymnastics’ Open Day at the hall on November 3 from 11.30am. From there, head to the markets and see all the Classic Yass activities.
