The wing includes a communal area, seven rooms with en-suites and a staff room and opened at the end of September. There was no time wasted in using the space, with everyone moving in within an hour and a half of the builders giving the go ahead.
A group of women were enjoying the communal area when the Tribune visited last Monday. “It’s excellent; nice and airy,” said one of the helpers, Doreen Duncan.
CEO Lyn Morgan said the communal area had also encouraged residents at Warmington Lodge, located above Horton House, to pay a visit. She also said the en-suites provided more comfort for residents and their visitors.
The new wing is stage one of four in the redevelopment. By May 2019, Horton House should have 26 rooms with en-suites and a new link that will create better access between areas of the home.
Mrs Morgan said it’s hoped the remaining nine rooms at Horton House would be designated bathrooms that have been freed up by the other rooms having en-suites.
There have been no new rooms added to Horton House, with some of the original rooms re-purposed as en-suites. The build of seven new rooms in the wing ensured no rooms were lost.
