As you put your glad rags on and head out to a bar or pub to welcome the New Year in tonight, don’t forget that if you’re feeling unsafe to ‘Ask for Angela’.
Anyone in a licensed venue who feels in danger or that something isn’t quite right, can simply ‘ask to see Angela’ at the bar – a code phrase that will alert trained staff.
Staff will then take you to a safe place and the police can be contacted if necessary.
The NSW Police Force hopes it will reduce incidents of sexual assaults and harassment.
“It is such a great initiative and a non-threatening way for people to seek assistance,” Yass Police Inspector said.
“Whether they feel it necessary to contact police or not, this enables venues to ensure the immediate safety of their patrons.”
If anyone feels in immediate danger or needs urgent help, call 000.
