Here, we find out what the candidates' priorities are for the Yass Valley.
Liberals
Wendy Tuckerman
Water is one of the top priorities for the region. I was delighted to be a part of the NSW Liberal and Nationals' announcement, committing to the upgrading of the Yass water treatment plant.
I have been meeting with and receiving feedback from the community on the importance of ensuring this piece of infrastructure is built.
Labor
Dr Ursula Stephens
Schools, hospitals, roads and free TAFE (Technical and Further Education).
Labor has committed to the following projects: fixing Yass water; upgrading our hospitals ($12.3 million for Yass Hospital) and implementing nurse-to-patient ratios; fixing our schools by fully funding Gonski; $300,000 for 12 village enhancement projects; and $900 million for state-wide road projects to fix regional roads.
One Nation
Richard Orchard
Complete the Barton Highway duplication; Yass water; a clinical services review of the hospital with new community consultation; and a review of public transport options for Yass and villages.
Greens
Dr Saan Ecker
Taking serious action on climate change, water and environmental degradation; addressing community concerns about the lack of transparency in local government decisions, such as the Gundaroo sewerage treatment plant and other inexplicable planning decisions; and ensuring farmers and small business are able to take advantage of opportunities in renewable energy.
