Three of the five lowest rated roads for congestion, condition and safety were in the local government area.
The Rate Your Road survey began in January to give voters a voice ahead of the NSW state election (March 23) and was answered by 865 people in the region.
The Barton Highway in the Yass Valley was labelled by 372 drivers as the worst road for congestion and safety.
The Hume Highway wasn't far behind either, listed by 74 people as the region's third worst road for safety and condition. The same was said for Yass Valley Way, which took the fifth and final place.
Of the region's 865 voters, 291 were from the Yass Valley, with bad behaviour, poor road markings, a lack of overtaking lanes, small shoulders and rough, loose surfaces driving locals to raise their concerns.
One local driver, Luke Black, said the Barton Highway's lack of overtaking lanes caused frustration for drivers.
Another driver, Nathan Senior, said the highway was simply "not fit for purpose", explaining that "the road was very clearly not designed for the volume or variety of traffic that travels on it".
He said the road had "too few, too short overtaking lanes"; a lack of shoulder space to pull over; and "too many incompetent, impatient and inconsiderate drivers".
Louise Burmester from Murrumbateman agreed with the short overtaking lanes, saying "People speed up … only to slow down to below the limit … when the lane runs out."
