On March 1, Finn (Year 9) and Heather Dunne (Year 10) from Yass, were presented with their nominations for the Scouts NSW/ACT Youth Development Award by Minister for Multiculturalism and Disability Services, Ray Williams.
The siblings were nominated by members of the Yass Valley community for the 2018 Young Achiever Awards, which acknowledge the leadership and commitment of young people.
Both Finn and Heather are local Scout Patrol Leaders with the First Yass Scouts Group and dedicated to volunteering, including with Yass FM as weekly presenters.
Heather was also nominated for the Freemasons of NSW/ACT Community Service Award, which recognises those who have helped people in times of need.
As well as her involvement with the Scouts and Yass FM, Heather is the co-founder of the social justice group when she was at Yass High School.
Heather also attended the Office of the NSW Advocate for Children and Young People at Parliament House, Sydney on November 8 as a successfully shortlisted applicant for the NSW Youth Advisory Council.
In addition to his leadership duties, Finn is also chairman of his Scout's Troop Council and was chairman of the Yass Valley Youth Council in 2018.
Finn is also a student at Perform Australia in Canberra and was nominated for the Patricia Kelson Encouragement Award at the 2018 Canberra Theatre Awards.
