Murrumbateman Eagles defeat Goulburn Swans for second win of 2019

The Eagles took on the Goulburn Swans at the Murrumbateman Rec Grounds on Saturday, and claimed their second consecutive win over the fourth-ranked team.

"At the start of the year, we just wanted to be competitive, which we have been," Ingold said.

"To get these two wins has just put the icing on the cake for us."

Against a Goulburn side which has been wobbled by a number of injuries to key players, Murrumbateman played phenomenally well and claimed an 11.16.82 to 4.5.29 win.

"We went in confident as we do every game," Ingold said.

"But to win by nine goals, I didn't think we'd win by that much. It instilled a lot of confidence in the guys and they know what they're capable of now.

"A lot of things did click for us, our run and carry was excellent. We had a few positional changes and they guys excelled with it."

The win sees Murrumbateman climb off the bottom of the ladder for the first time in 2019. They overtake the Yass Roos, who also have two wins for the year, by virtue of a superior scoring percentage.

Ingold has taken care throughout the year to emphasize to his players that there is no pressure on them, and he told them before Saturday's game "just go out there and enjoy it, go out and have fun".

At the same time, Ingold was careful not to underestimate their opponents, who have the capacity to beat any of the top sides on their day.

"Goulburn is a strong unit, and they've got some very handy players in there with Simon [Treloar] and Bill Reid," he said.

It has been particularly pleasing for the Eagles' coaching team to see its players gelling so well throughout the season.

"We haven't been able to produce the same side twice in a row," Ingold said. "I can count on one hand the number of guys who have played every single game this year.

"With that squad, it's around the 33 mark, it is very positive that we can have guys drop out and guys come in and still be competitive."

This weekend, the Eagles will take on the Cootamundra Blues in Murrumbateman.

The Blues have been comfortably the best side in the competition this year, and the last time the two teams played, it resulted in an 82-point thumping for Murrumbateman.

The Eagles will have their work cut out for them, but their good form will give them confidence ahead of the encounter.

The match will begin from 2pm on Saturday, July 20.
