Yass Rams president Grant Brewer examines hit-and-miss season

The Rams finished the 2019 season in second-last place on the South Coast Monaro Second Division ladder, with six wins and 11 losses.

After a promising start to the year, the Rams struggled to put forward the kinds of performances of which they had proven capable.

Despite wins over strong teams like the Bungendore Mudchooks and Jindabyne Bushpigs, Brewer said the "core group" might have suffered without the support of a consistent lineup.

"There was a core group of players who were committed to playing and training, but they may have been let down by some of their teammates whose attendance was sporadic," Brewer said.

"Numbers were okay, there was some players who were very committed and put in an effort each week, but unfortunately there were some who could've done a little bit more."

The Rams also struggled to secure a coach early in the season, which Brewer believed to have had an impact.

"It was hard for the players also, because we didn't have a coach to start the season," he said.

"We'll be trying to shore up a coach, we'd like to have that done in the next couple of months [for the 2020 season]."

But there were plenty of positives to take away from 2019 for the Rams, and Brewer said one match in particular stands out in his memory.

"Our best game was at GIO Stadium before the Brumbies, where we beat Braidwood," he said.

"It was a great effort."

That match was particularly memorable as the Rams came back from a half-time deficit to record an 11-point win over a burgeoning Redbacks outfit.

Brewer is confident performances like this one will become more common in future seasons.

"[I'm] very optimistic," he said.

"If we can get it right off the field, it's only a matter of time before we get it right on the field."

Praise flowed thick and fast from Brewer about the efforts of the committee throughout the season, who he said worked "really hard".

"The committee worked really hard in relation to sponsorship," he said.

"We had a sponsors day, we had the races, we had a casino night. We had a players auction which was well supported by the playing group. Off the field things were pretty good."

The next fixture on the Rams' calendar is the presentation night, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 7. Further details will be provided in the near future.
