"I just needed to hang in there as the last point was a really long one.
"I was very patient and i didn't go for it too much.
"He hit a nice deep ball and I hit back with a short pop ball.
"He came in to hit a winner, but sprayed it wide."
That was Binalong resident Angus Kelly describing the moment he won his championship point at the NSW South West Champion of Champions tennis tournament in Wagga Wagga on Sunday, August 25.
The nine-year-old took out the trophy in the 10 and unders category by winning all his games by the scoreline 6-0.
His mother, Maree Kelly was really proud of her son while Angus was could not have been happier with his performances.
Angus, who has an Australian tennis ranking, loves the sport through and through and has a milestone he would to crack.
"I love to play against other people and like to compete," Angus said.
"I'd like to be ranked in the top 1000 and to compete at grand slams."
Like every young up and coming sportsman, Angus has an idol he admires.
"Rafael Nadal is my idol," he said.
"He is a fighter and we are both left handers.
"I think he is a very good tennis player and a very good person to look up to."
Yass's Lachlan Penfold also competed in the 12 and unders category.
Angus will now go on to play in the NSW State Championships in Cessnock on the weekend starting on October 19.
