"We are pleased to be presenting our second temporary exhibition and this time we are showcasing a local identity, AJ Shearsby," said Cheryl Mongan, president of Yass and District Historical Society.
"Many have seen his postcards and photography reflecting the social history of Yass in the early 1900s."
Shearsby photographed the development of Burrinjuck Dam from its beginnings in 1907 through to 1950.
Crucial to the dam was its rail line transporting vital supplies for dam construction and for workers and their families.
One of the five railway engines was 'Archie', which was photographed by Shearsby.
There is a wonderful model of the train in the exhibition.
There was far more to AJ Shearsby than photos.
He was a geologist, collector of fossils, an artist and so much more.
The ever popular model buildings of Comur Street will re-appear in a new exhibition portraying our main street in the 1890s.
Despite the best efforts of the enthusiastic band of volunteers, the museum will not be open for the October long weekend as planned, but the good news is it will all be happening just one week later!
Come and join us on October 12 and 13 for our big opening weekend at 247A Comur Street, Yass.
