A snapshot of the NSW bushfires

The early start to the bushfire season in NSW has already claimed six lives and more than 680 homes.

More than 100 fires are currently burning in the state, from the Queensland border in the north to the south coast, while there are fires on Sydney's northern and western outskirts.

THE MAJOR FIRES CURRENTLY BURNING:

HAWKESBURY

* An out-of-control 250,000 hectare Gospers Mountain bushfire has linked with other smaller fire fronts to the north at Paddock Run and Little L Complex.

* All three fires are out of control and the RFS at one stage on Friday afternoon had issued emergency warnings for each. The public were advised to seek shelter.

* Another fire is burning out of control towards the Paddock Run Fire at Kerry Ridge. An emergency warning has been issued.

* Smaller fires are burning directly to the east of the Gospers Mountain blaze, with an emergency warning issued for Wrights Creek.

GOULBURN RIVER NATIONAL PARK

* An emergency warning has been issued for an out-of-control fire in the Goulburn River National Park.

* Fire is burning towards Merriwa and Tunbridge, RFS advises to seek shelter as the blaze is approaching.

WARRAGAMBA DAM

* The Green Wattle Creek fire, 15 kilometres southwest of Warragamba Dam, is burning out of control.

* RFS has issued an emergency warning, with the fire expected to impact Nattai Village.

* Werombi, Orangeville and Theresa Park could also be impacted. RFS has advised residents to be ready to take action.

CURROWAN

* The Currowan fire is burning out of control in the areas of Kioloa, Pretty Beach, Pebbly Beach, Depot Beach and Durras North.

* The fires, just south of Ulladulla and north of Batemans Bay, have already burnt over 73,000ha and destroyed a number of buildings.

* RFS has revised its status to "watch and act".

KEMPSEY

* An emergency warning has been issued for the Carrai East blaze northwest of Kempsey.

* Public have been advised to leave from Taylors Arm Road and Hickeys Creek, with Eight Mile Creek Road, Dungay, Boonanghi, Wittitrin or Five Day Creek told to monitor conditions.

BANGALA

* An emergency warning has been issued for an out-of-control fire at Bangala Creek north of Drake.

* The fire is burning towards Paddys Flat and Pretty Gully.
