Yass Rams upset Jindabyne Bushpigs for third consecutive victory

The 26-22 victory over the fourth-placed Bushpigs (who slipped down from third after Saturday's game) at Victoria Park was Yass's third on the trot in what has been a commanding end to the season.

It also continued a habit of extremely close finishes which the Rams have developed in 2021.

It was the seventh time that a match involving Yass was decided by six points or less, and of those, the Rams have now won three.

Mitchell Stevens played a key role in the victory, with a try and three conversions to his name. The other try-scorers for Yass were Digby Cooke, with two, and George Clark.

The victory pushes the Rams to fifth on the South Coast Monaro ladder, five points behind the Bushpigs. It also sets up an interesting clash in the final round against the Taralga Tigers, who are currently in second place.

The Tigers have sat at or near the top of this division for a number of years, and will no doubt pose a daunting threat to Yass.

However, the Rams will likely be the fresher team on the day, as the round 15 fixture will be Taralga's second in three days.

Though they had a bye on the weekend, the Tigers are playing the Crookwell Dogs on Wednesday to make up for their washed out match which was originally scheduled for July 17.

The Dogs and the Tigers share a fierce rivalry and their matches are almost always physically taxing affairs for both teams.

This leaves Yass in with a chance of upsetting the Tigers, particularly after their last match, in round five, was decided by a margin of four points.

If the Rams can produce another typically gritty performance, they stand a good chance at upsetting one of the competition favourites.

The Yass Rams and Taralga Tigers will play this Saturday, July 31, at the Taralga Showgrounds from 2.30pm.

The Yass Ewes, meanwhile, was less successful on the weekend and fell to the Jindabyne Miss Piggies, 39-20.

Though the Yass women are currently seventh on the ACT Women's 10s ladder, they have performed well for a team which is still finding its feet.

Along with their three wins, the Ewes have also played in some phenomenal matches which unluckily did not go their way.

However, Yass will have the opportunity to finish on a high note this weekend against Hall, a team which has struggled this year and currently sits in last place.

The Yass Ewes will take on Hall at the Hall Showground this Saturday, July 31, from 1.40pm.
