Funding to the tune of $1,714,454 has been allocated to the council by the Australian Government under the phase 3 of Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.

The LRCI Program aims to assist a community led recovery from COVID-19 by supporting local jobs, firms and procurement.

A total of $1m has been allocated for gravel re-sheeting of council's unsealed road network. Out of this, $250,000 will be allocated in 2021-22 and $750,000 to 2022-23.

A further $714,454 will be subject to a further report to council.

"It is expected that councils, where possible, will use local businesses and workforces to deliver projects under the LRCI Program to ensure stimulus funds flow into local communities," the council paper for this month's meeting states.

Previously, council has received $857,227 under Phase 1 and $1,020,648 under Phase 2 of the LRCI program.

Meanwhile, Yass Valley Council has also received $455,000 under the NSW 2021-22 Safer Roads Program for safety works on Nanima Road.

The work includes provision of chevron assisted markers (CAMs) on selected bends, curve and speed advisory signs and audible tactile line marking.

The grant has been offered over two financial years - $100,000 in 2021-22 and $355,000 in 2022-23.
