The club’s first president was Col Reardon, with Norm Curl as the secretary/treasurer.

The committee included Andy Mead, Des Hatfield, Victor Grieves, Des Jewell, Keith Reardon, Norm Carey, Arthur Armour and Rex Robertson.

Over the years many other men, and more recently women, have worked hard to ensure the club continues to grow and provide a social and sporting environment for the community to enjoy.

On Saturday March 2 the club will be celebrating its golden anniversary with a dinner and reunion. All past and present members, or people who just want a good night out, are more than welcome.

Tickets can be purchased from committee members, the Soldiers club and Yass Outdoor Sports and Camping.

Special polo shirts for this special time are available, but in limited numbers, so see a committee member for details as they will sell out quickly.

On the fishing front, there were good numbers of fish caught over the holidays. However, with rapid loss of water from Burrinjuck, reports of fish being caught have declined at an equally rapid rate now that Burrinjuck is first and foremost an irrigation dam.

But I find it very hard to believe that all that water is being used by the irrigators. God willing it will rain and refill Burrinjuck in the autumn.

If the rains don't come there will be a lot of very concerned people, including fisho’s, irrigators, greenies and government officials.

In July the AGM will be held, so this is just a little reminder to all our members to start thinking about becoming a committee member. Some of our committee members have been there for some time and may be looking to stand down and let some new faces take over.

The Soldiers Club Fishing Club offers sincere condolence to Robyn, Dennis and Gary Pollack and their families, on the passing of Kevin. God bless you Kev, may you rest in peace.
