Two players from the Dalton Dingos are currently topping the batting and bowling charts for the Yass District Cricket Association (YDCA) Triggs Shield, just as the A and B Grade T20 competition is preparing to kick off.

Brett Poidevin continued his remarkable run of form on the weekend with another rollicking innings of 72 for the Dingos against the Yass Golf Club Piranhas.
This innings brings Brett’s tally for the season to 318 runs at an average of 159 from five innings, an incredible number particularly considering that he bats at the top of the order against the new ball.
Meanwhile, Mick Poidevin had a quieter time on the weekend with the ball (1-32), but it took his overall tally to 13 wickets for the season at an average of 8.77.
Although it was not enough to get the Dingos across the line on Saturday, thanks mostly to a reply innings of 75 not out from Piranhas captain Rob Field, it is clear that the Poidevins are the players to watch in the Triggs Shield this year.
The only issue for the Dingos will be one of which batsmen are capable of playing consistent supporting roles when Brett tees off, and who is capable of stepping up on the rare occasions he misses out.
On the weekend, he was ably supported by Michael Gersternberg (34) and Mick (23*), but no other batsman for the Dingos has managed more than Gersternberg’s 105 runs for the season.
Conversely, it was a good match for the Piranhas, as Field’s half-century showed last year’s grand finalists can rely on someone other than Dan Poidevin to provide a batting foundation. Indeed, with his 75, Field has now moved up to sixth on the list of runscorers for the season, only two places behind Dan.
In the lead-up to this weekend’s first round of the A/B Grade T20 competition, the form of aggressive batsmen such as Brett will be key to determining each team’s fortunes.
The Dingos will be relying heavily on his phenomenal runscoring to continue, in order to provide the team with a foundation for their bowlers, particularly Mick and Andrew Hansen (eight wickets at 16.88 for the season).
The T20 competition kicks off this weekend and will feature a tournament-style format which will pit each of the teams against each other on Saturday morning, with semi-finals to be played on Saturday afternoon.
The grand final will take place on December 15 at Victoria Park, and it will also be the final round for the Yass District Cricket Association before the Christmas break. Cricket will resume on January 5.
The Dingos will first play the Piranhas once again at Victoria Park on Saturday from 12.30pm, with the semis to begin at 3.00pm.
