Despite the somewhat overcast conditions, the temperatures were high, and many sought out the air conditioned comfort of the clubhouse between events.
Shoot-offs were required in the first event with Jason Winters and Paul Watchorn called upon to sort out first and second placings in AA Grade.
Visiting shooters Eric Geltch and Craig Bishop needed extra shells to decide second place in A Grade while Veteran shooter Ian Crisp and Junior shooter Mark Box battled it out to determine a C Grade winner.
After a long and protracted battle, Ian outlasted the young fellow in the end to claim the cash prize.
Dave Caccioppoli once again proved how handy he is with a shotgun and claimed overall victory in the event with a very solid score of 120/125.
The second and final event for the year was a 25 target novelty teams event with higher graded single barrel shooters teamed up with lower graded double barrel shooters in the hope of compiling a two person team score worthy of a leg of ham.
Team Winters and Churchill took home the bacon with some very handy long-range second barrels from Bob.
Minor placings were once again finalised with a number of shoot-offs.
Ray Kearns topped off a great year of visits to Yass with a well-deserved High Gun for the day.
Yass Clay Target Club wishes to thank everyone for their patronage throughout 2018 with all members of the club now looking forward to hosting another full year of fun events in 2019.
2018 was a highly successful year for the Yass Clay Target Club, some of the highlights of which were the Ray Smith Memorial Shield, which was won by Glenn Barton for the second year running, and the CanAssist fundraiser which brought together $800 for the charity.
The club will be looking forward to replicating the great success from last year in 2019.
The Yass Clay Target Club has not yet confirmed its calendar for the 2019 year, but updates are expected to be posted on the club’s Facebook page. Similarly, prospective competitors can contact the club via Facebook or email at yassclaytargetclub@hotmail.com.
