Coming off a win last weekend against the Gungahlin Bulls, the Magpies will be looking to cement themselves as top-four contenders against the Roos, who are in a similar position form-wise.
Prior to the Bulls clash, Yass's first two matches ended in defeat at the hands of two of the competition favourites: the Woden Rams and the Goulburn Bulldogs.
Similarly, the Roos have had matches against Goulburn, the Queanbeyan Blues, and West Belconnen Warriors, which has left them with a record of two losses and a draw.
While these stats are unflattering for both sides, they makes several points clear.
The first is the general high standard of the competition in 2019. Traditionally strong sides such as the Blues and Roos are not far below their usual table-topping form; however, the strength of teams such as Woden, Goulburn, and Tuggeranong means that the competition for top four spots is more fierce than usual.
This leaves teams such as Yass and the Roos, who can definitely stake a top-four claim if given the opportunity to win a few on the trot.
Getting into top form will be made more difficult for the Magpies by the absence of starting centre Will Peace, who is in the second of a five-week suspension for a tackle that left Goulburn fullback Tyler Cornish with a shattered jaw.
This will be compounded this weekend by the presence of Reece Robinson on the Roos' roster, who made his debut for Queanbeyan last week against Wests.
The Magpies will also have to adjust to playing at Seears Workwear Oval in Queanbeyan, where they were most recently handed a 46-12 defeat.
But Yass will come into the match with a head full of steam following their 48-14 mauling of the Bulls, and victory is one thing the Roos have yet to taste this season, which makes this weekend's clash all the more difficult to pick.
The Yass Magpies will play the Queanbeyan Roos at Seears Workwear Oval from 3pm on Saturday May 4.
