In the past, the Yass Golf Club Piranhas and the Yass Golf Club Snipers have often dominated the competition, and in 2018/19, both faced off in the semi-finals.

However, this season, the two will combine to form a singular side to compensate for shallow numbers.

"That'll be a fairly strong team," Yass District Cricket Association president, Paul Barnes, said.

"They've still got the core of really good players there. Both those teams have been lacking support players the last couple of seasons, so I think that's the main reason why they've amalgamated."

This season will continue the combined A and B Grade format which began last year. Though the top grade will lose one of the Golf Club sides, the number of teams won't change as one of Murrumbateman's two teams will move up from C Grade, which will then welcome a new Rugby Club side.

A and B Grade will play 14 rounds this season, with each team to play the others twice and have two byes, while C Grade will have 12 rounds.

"That was all based on feedback from the players, what they wanted," Barnes said.

The YDCA will also run the T20 competition in the two weeks before the Christmas break, which proved to be a hit with players last season.

The other significant change to the 2019/20 cricket season will take place in the representative ranks.

As Yass will not take part in the Stribley Shield this year, the representative schedule takes on a vastly different look.

It begins this weekend, on October 13, with several Yass players selected for the Southern Tablelands team which will take part in a trial match for the Country Championships.

After October, there will not be any major representative cricket until the Burns Cup, which will take place in February.

Where the Stribley Shield usually began in early November, Barnes believes the later start for the Burns Cup could be beneficial for Yass's cricketers.

"Playing in November and December, we never saw the best out of the players still warming into the season," Barnes said.

"I hope playing in February, there'll be much more competitive and high-standard games."

Both the senior and junior cricket seasons will begin on October 19. Players hoping to register can do so on the Yass District Cricket Association website, at http://yassdca.nsw.cricket.com.au/.
