Nintendo officially revealed the release date of its next console, the Switch 2, in a marathon hour-long presentation.

The Switch 2 will officially launch on June 5, 2025, and will cost $699.
The device will still be able to be used in both a handheld and docked (connected to a TV) mode, with a new camera for the system set to launch alongside the console.
A new feature is an added C button which will unlock a host of social features, including game chat and screen sharing.
The new console will also include game sharing allowing one person to share a game with three others locally.
The first Switch was launched in March 2017 and has gone on to sell more than 150 million units worldwide. It is behind only the Nintendo DS in lifetime sales.
Games shown during the presentation include Mario Kart World, Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour and Donkey Kong Bananza.
Some original Nintendo Switch games will be backwards compatible with select games getting upgraded editions, including Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, for an upgrade fee.
Pre-orders for the console have been made available on the websites of Australian retailers.
